Water Efficiency Calculations

The Heritage and Our Experience

BEAT Solutions have been providing Water Calculations since 2008. Originally, the calculations were required for Ecohomes 2006 - The Environmental Rating for Homes. Eventually, CODE for Sustainable Homes was introduced to encourage better sustainably built homes. This was a voluntary scheme but soon became popular with local authorities. These schemes have both been discontinued but the heritage of the water calculation methodology remains within current Building Regulations, as Part G requires mandatory Water Efficiency Calculations to be provided.

The Regulations

Current building regulations (Part G) require a maximum water usage of 125 litres of water per person per day.

Some councils have adopted a lower than 125 litres per person per day standard to encourage lower water usage, especially in areas of low or restricted water sources. If your project is required to achieve “Code Level 4 Standards”, then the maximum permittable will be 105 litres per person per day.

Why is it important?

By cutting water consumption you will be helping your new homeowner/occupant save money on their water bills as well as helping the environment in the process. Using less water won’t come at an aesthetic cost either. We can advise suitable products, fixtures, fittings and appliances to meet target required.

We have seen the industry change and progress a lot since the days of Ecohomes 2006. There are many manufacturers and brands producing great looking products designed to meet the latest regulations. Let us help you select the correct ones for your next project.

What’s involved?

Using project drawings and specifications we will undertake a desktop appraisal of the dwelling and water usage fittings within. These will include, basins, toilets, showers, baths, washing machines, dishwasher, water softeners, waste disposal units, grey and rain water recycling systems. Once our team of assessors have calculated the usage based on the design drawings and specification they will provide a report for each dwelling. This is will be required by your building control officer or NHBC for final certification. However, don’t leave it until the end of the project to comply, as replacing any fixtures or fittings can be needlessly expensive.

How we can help?

Should your dwelling’s specification exceed the maximum requirements, then our team of experts will be able to advise you on how best to achieve your target. Our knowledge of products and ability to understand your project enables us to correctly and cost effectively specify your water usage fixtures and fittings.

Don't forget! Use our New Build Pack service to save money and hassle by combining your SAP, EPC, Air Testing, Ventilation Testing, Water Calculation and Acoustic Testing (if applicable) all together.
